AC Milan’s technical director, Geoffrey Moncada, has revealed that the club narrowly missed out on signing Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior, who were instead snapped up by Real Madrid. Moncada disclosed that Milan had attempted to sign Vinicius Jr when he was just 17 years old and Bellingham when he was 20, but ultimately could not compete with the Spanish giants.
Despite this setback, Moncada expressed pride in Milan’s ability to uncover and revitalise “underrated players”. He cited the example of USMNT star Christian Pulisic, who has rediscovered his form since joining the Rossoneri from Chelsea in 2023. Moncada, a former scout, takes great pleasure in seeing transfer gambles pay off, and believes that Milan’s keen eye for talent will continue to serve them well in the future.
Moncada acknowledged that Milan cannot compete with the likes of Real Madrid in the transfer market, but remains confident that the club can continue to make shrewd additions to their squad. With their ability to revitalise underrated players, the Rossoneri will be looking to unearth more hidden gems like Pulisic in upcoming transfer windows.
