Raphael Varane has officially announced his departure from Manchester United this summer as his contract expires, concluding a three-season spell at Old Trafford.
Joining from Real Madrid in August 2021, Varane made a memorable debut in front of the home fans at the Theatre of Dreams, coinciding with the opening-weekend victory over Leeds United.
Throughout his 93 appearances for the club, Varane’s presence brought class and experience, notably contributing to Manchester United’s 2023 Carabao Cup triumph against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium. His partnership with Lisandro Martinez showcased his wealth of experience, securing a 2-0 victory for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Varane’s two goals for the Reds, including a memorable strike against Brentford, further emphasized his impact on the pitch. However, it’s his steadfast defensive performances that truly distinguished him, amassing 67 Premier League appearances, 58 as a starter.
Although sidelined since the defeat to Chelsea on April 4th, Varane remains committed to his recovery from injury, aiming to return before the season’s conclusion. With upcoming fixtures against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, and the Emirates FA Cup final clash against Manchester City on May 25th, his presence will be missed.
United expresses gratitude to Varane for his service and extends best wishes for his future endeavors.
