Barcelona has officially sacked head coach Xavi Hernández following a season without trophies. Initially, Xavi had planned to leave at the end of the season but reconsidered after President Joan Laporta persuaded him to stay. Despite this, the club confirmed his departure in a recent statement.
The announcement stated that President Joan Laporta informed Xavi he would not continue as the first team coach for the 2024-25 season. The meeting took place at the Joan Gamper Sports City, attended by sports vice president Rafa Yuste, sports director Deco, and Xavi’s assistants Òscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre.
Barcelona expressed gratitude for Xavi’s contributions as a coach and highlighted his exceptional career as a player and captain. The club wished him all the best for the future, noting that he will coach his final game this Sunday in Seville.
The club also mentioned that details about the new structure of the first team would be shared in the coming days.
