Arsenal is gearing up to make a formal bid for Bologna’s standout forward Joshua Zirkzee. Manager Mikel Arteta is eager to strengthen his squad before Euro 2024 and the club’s pre-season tour in America this July, identifying the Netherlands-born U21 international as a prime target following his stellar season in Serie A.
Zirkzee has made waves in the Italian league, netting 11 goals in a defensively robust competition to help Bologna secure fifth place. The former Anderlecht talent also contributed five assists in 34 league matches, playing a crucial role in securing Bologna’s first Champions League qualification in six decades.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Zirkzee’s physical presence aligns perfectly with Arteta’s tactical approach, which prominently featured Kai Havertz this season. The 23-year-old’s contract with Bologna runs until 2026, making a summer transfer highly plausible.
Arsenal is prepared to meet the release clause in Zirkzee’s contract, which is triggered by a bid of €40 million or more. With this move, Arteta aims to add significant firepower to his squad ahead of the upcoming European and domestic campaigns.
