Saudi Clubs Eye Three Barcelona Stars

Reports from SPORT indicate that Saudi Arabian clubs have expressed interest in acquiring three Barcelona players: Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Ronald Araujo. Barcelona, however, currently show no inclination to sell these players. Nevertheless, the club may reconsider if they receive substantial offers, a scenario deemed likely given the financial capabilities of the Saudi teams.

While Barcelona President Joan Laporta recently stated that the club is not compelled to sell any players, it would be prudent for Barcelona to pursue significant transfers considering its financial predicament. Additionally, the club is looking to offload three or four players who do not align with its future plans to alleviate the burden of their high salaries.

Players such as Clement Lenglet and Ansu Fati may find new opportunities in Saudi Arabia, although their willingness to move there remains uncertain. Saudi clubs have already made inquiries and have even sought to initiate negotiations, with a particular focus on Barcelona’s key players, especially the center backs. Araujo, Christensen, and Kounde are among the players drawing interest, with Araujo already linked with a potential exit, despite ongoing speculation about a contract extension with Barcelona.

While this interest does not guarantee any deals, it does suggest that there will be extensive discussions in the coming weeks. Kounde has also been linked with Al-Ittihad, but he is expected to remain integral to Hansi Flick’s plans, while Christensen is viewed as a valuable asset.

Barcelona’s immediate priority is to adhere to the 1:1 rule to facilitate new player signings, which hinges on resolving the issue of Barça Studios, a significant financial concern. Several meetings are scheduled to address this, and club officials are optimistic about reaching a resolution in time to deliver positive news, even if it materializes at the eleventh hour, a scenario that has frequently occurred under Laporta’s leadership.

If successful, Barcelona will not be compelled to make major sales. However, failure to do so could lead to the possibility of selling a key player.
