Arsenal Set to Challenge Juventus for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz

Arsenal is reportedly gearing up to hijack Juventus’ move for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz. The Gunners are keen to bolster their squad this summer as they aim to close the gap on Manchester City in the Premier League title race. With midfielders Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny expected to leave and Albert Sambi Lokonga seeking more game time, Arsenal is in need of reinforcements.

Douglas Luiz has long been on Arsenal’s radar, with a transfer nearly materializing in 2022 before the Brazilian signed a new deal with Villa. However, circumstances have shifted, and Villa, under pressure to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, may be willing to let Luiz go. Unai Emery, Villa’s manager, appears open to the sale to balance the club’s finances.

Juventus is currently in advanced negotiations to sign Luiz, proposing a deal involving cash plus players Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling Junior. However, Arsenal could potentially derail this by offering a straightforward cash deal, which might be more appealing to Villa. The Gunners are looking to take advantage of the situation to secure Luiz’s signature.

Former Arsenal striker and Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith has backed the move, highlighting Luiz’s growth under Emery. Smith noted, “Douglas Luiz has shown great discipline and adaptability under Emery, making him a suitable replacement for Partey. His willingness to follow strict tactical instructions bodes well for his integration into Arsenal’s midfield.” With Partey’s likely departure, Luiz could fill the crucial deep-lying midfield role Arsenal needs to strengthen.
