Vincent Kompany, recently appointed as Bayern Munich’s manager, has set his sights on Liverpool defender Joe Gomez as one of his first major signings. Despite his departure from the Premier League, Kompany remains keen on its top talent as he transitions into his new role at Bayern.
According to The Mirror, Gomez’s versatility has particularly attracted Kompany. Gomez recently completed a stellar season with Liverpool, making 51 appearances across all competitions. His ability to play multiple positions—centre-back, left-back, right-back, and even midfield—demonstrates the significant value he could bring to Bayern’s defensive lineup.

Gomez’s resurgence has also caught the attention of England’s national team manager, Gareth Southgate. After not being capped since 2020, his impressive performances have earned him a spot in the Euro 2024 squad. Gomez is currently in Germany, preparing for England’s opening match against Serbia on June 16.
However, Kompany might face challenges in securing Gomez’s transfer. The defender recently signed a five-year extension with Liverpool, binding him to the club until 2027. Additionally, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly reluctant to part with Gomez, given his crucial role last season. Kompany may need to consider other options like Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah and Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, or even reigniting Bayern’s interest in Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.
