Hamann’s critique parallels sentiments expressed by Liverpool legend Graeme Souness, who advocated for the inclusion of Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland over Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), and Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace).
“Gareth has been very loyal to Jordan Pickford, which I understand, but I believe there’s another goalkeeper who should be in the squad,” Souness wrote in the Daily Mail. “I’ve watched Jack Butland playing for Rangers this season, and he is the best English goalkeeper around. I’m surprised he hasn’t earned a place.”

“People tell me Declan Rice is the best centre midfielder in the Premier League, but I don’t think he’s anywhere near Rodri,” Hamann stated.
