Barcelona Rush to Offload Lenglet Amid La Liga Interest

Barcelona’s Urgent Transfer Dilemma
With less than three weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona faces mounting pressure to offload players who are not part of their future plans. Among those on the chopping block is 29-year-old defender Clement Lenglet. Despite making a strong impression during pre-season and catching the eye of Hansi Flick, Lenglet’s return from a loan spell at Aston Villa hasn’t secured him a spot in the squad. Financially, keeping Lenglet would burden Barcelona with €19 million in salary and amortization costs, making his exit all but certain.

La Liga Clubs Circle Lenglet
Interest in Lenglet has surfaced from two La Liga clubs eager to strengthen their defenses. Villarreal, led by manager Marcelino Garcia Toral, is in the market for a new centre-back and considers Lenglet a suitable candidate. However, the Yellow Submarine is hesitant due to the hefty salary demands that accompany the Frenchman.

Atletico Madrid’s Interest and Negotiation Hopes
Atletico Madrid has also shown interest in Lenglet, with manager Diego Simeone reportedly approving the potential signing. After securing Robin Le Normand, Atletico is still seeking an additional centre-back, especially after their pursuit of David Hancko fell through. While Lenglet’s salary poses a challenge, there is optimism from all sides—Lenglet, Barcelona, and Atletico—that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached.
