Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp marks his comeback to coaching with a 5-4 win

In his first dugout appearance since resigning as Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp managed team Blaszczykowski in a testimonial match against team Piszczek, and he guided his team to a 5-4 victory

On Saturday, Dortmund held a testimonial game in honor of two of their legends: the Polish players Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lucasz Piszczek, who were both present for the 2011 and 2012 Bundesliga championships under Klopp. Both teams fielded former teammates, and the match ended in a thrilling nine goals.

Coach Jurgen Klopp of the Blaszczykowski team included the following players in his lineup: Jacob Błaszczykowski, Roman Weidenfeller, Mats Hummels, Julian Koch, Dede, Neven Subotic, Felipe Santana, Marcin Wasilewski, Patrick Owomoyela, Moritz Leitner, Antonio da Silva, Giovanni Federico, Kevin Großkreutz, Kamil Grosicki, Mohamed Zidan, Lucas Barrios, Mladen Petric, Nelson Valdez, and Ebi Smolarek

Peter Krawietz, Klopp’s assistant, was the coach of Team Piszczek. On his team were the following players: Ömer Toprak, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Erik Durm, Nuri Şahin, Florian Kringe, Gonzalo Castro, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Adrian Ramos, Julian Schieber, Dominik Zieba, Jacek Krzynowek, Artur Wichniarek, Adrian Hitz, Piszczek, Joo-Hoo Park, Marcel Schmelzer, Ömer Toprak, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and Adrian Kiklaisz.

Klopp compared it to a school reunion and said, It’s what I always dreamed of: that we’d meet again in life and just have a good time together. Klopp said to Sky Germany. “It’s like coming home. There are so many great memories. It’s nice to see the fans again.”

During his seven years as Dortmund’s coach, Klopp led the team to two Bundesliga titles, a German Cup, and the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley, where they were defeated by bitter rivals Bayern Munich.

Mats Hummels, a defender for Dortmund, departed the team in the summer to join Roma in Serie A.
Hummels is one of the few current players who has played for Dortmund, having played in 508 games.
He said afterwards, “It’s a mix of joy and sadness.“ I’ve spent a lot of my football life here.”
