Former Newcastle forward Nile Ranger back in Football after almost 2 years without a Club

Nile Ranger, a former forward for Newcastle, left Boreham Wood in the summer of 2022 and hasn’t been with a club since. In the FA Cup 5th Round, the Hertfordshire team lost 2-0 at Everton, and he played his last game for the team as a late substitute. In 147 games across the top four divisions of English football, Ranger scored 25 goals.

The 33-year-old’s career has been marred by disciplinary issues, which led to an eight-month prison sentence for online banking fraud in January 2017. After ten weeks, he was freed and went back to playing for Southend United, but at first, a curfew of 7:00 pm prevented him from participating in midweek matches.

According to a statement, Kettering Town Football Club said that Nile Ranger had signed with them. As seen on the website, Kettering wrote that “Nile has undoubted ability and should offer a different dynamic to the Poppies squad.

“We would like to welcome Nile to Latimer Park and hope he has a successful time with the club.”

Nile Ranger made his debut for Kettering on Monday in their seventh-tier victory over St. Ives Town, winning 2-1.

“It was his first game; he hadn’t met the lads. He’s come in out of the cold; he’s not played for a while,” Kettering manager Richard Lavery said to BBC Radio Northampton. You could see in the first half he was rusty; in the second half he turned up. There’s a lot more to come from him; he hasn’t played at those levels for nothing, has he?”

For many years, Kettering participated in the top levels of non-league football. When League Two replaced the Fourth Division in 1974, the bottom four clubs in that division had to apply for reelection, and they were just six votes away from joining the Football League.
