Chelsea Nicolas Jackson was the standout player as the Blues thrashed West Ham 3-0 on the road. Nicolas Jackson scored a decisive double at the London Stadium on Saturday to propel the Blues to victory over West Ham. The Senegal striker was rewarded for his manager’s faith.
Jackson scored twice and helped Chelsea move into second place in the Premier League standings with Cole Palmer’s third goal.
West Ham lost their third game of the season after just five games as they were unable to keep the Blues from scoring.
Jackson scored for Chelsea four minutes into the game after a fast free-kick caught West Ham’s defense off guard. Chelsea was clearly in the lead early on.
Before the half, Jackson added another goal to his tally with a deft finish on a through pass from Moisés Caicedo. Meanwhile, VAR turned down a penalty appeal from West Ham due to a foul on Crysencio Summerville.
Mohammed Kudus also had a goal disallowed for offside, but VAR denied him again, further frustrating the hosts.
In the second half, Jackson helped Palmer score a goal off the post with conviction, extending Chelsea’s impressive start to 3-0.
The Senegal international Jackson signed a contract extension in September, which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033. However, after the French forward scored in the 1-0 victory at Bournemouth, there were calls for Nkunku to start.
Jackson had an uneven first season with the Blues, scoring 17 goals despite missing several excellent opportunities. However, the 23-year-old has been playing well so far this season, scoring four goals in just six games across all competitions.
Chelsea’s victory takes them above Arsenal, who take on league leaders Manchester City this week, into second place in the Premier League.
For the first time in Premier League history, hosts West Ham lost three of their opening five games, making it their worst-ever start to a season.
