Arsenal fell behind early in the match due to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland’s 100th goal of the game, but they turned the exciting match around and took the lead just before halftime. After Manchester City lost talisman Rodri with a knee injury, a few seconds later, Riccardo Calafiori, an Arsenal defender, swept home an angled finish high past Ederson.
Seconds into first-half stoppage time, Gabriel headed home a corner at the far post, demonstrating Arsenal’s mastery of set pieces once more. This goal was a replica of his winning effort against Tottenham last week.
The most controversial incident occurred just before halftime when Trossard of Arsenal received a second yellow card for kicking the ball away. The visitors felt that this was unfair because Jeremy Doku of City had not been sent off for a similar offense.
In the midst of mayhem and controversy, John Stones scrambled home an equalizer seconds before time ran out to deny Arsenal a historic victory over Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.
Wright calls Manchester City Haaland a coward for throwing a ball at Gabriel
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright claims that Erling Haaland is a “coward” for tossing the ball behind Gabriel’s head following Manchester City’s late equalizer against Arsenal.
After John Stones’ goal, City striker Haaland scooped the ball up from the net and threw it at the back of the Arsenal defender, who had covered his head with his shirt in frustration and was turning away.
After reviewing the incident, the video assistant referee decided not to intervene because it was not considered a red card offense.
The Football Association has declared that it will not pursue any additional action regarding any of the incidents that occurred during the match, including an argument between players at the end of the game.
Wright said in a video on Instagram, “The one thing that boiled me up properly was Haaland’s coward’s move.”
“Throwing the ball at Gabi’s head when he’s not looking. When Gabi’s back’s turned to him. Real coward’s move. Gabi would look him in the eye, you know.
“That’s what bothered me more than anything else. I thought you [Haaland] were bigger than that.”
At Etihad Stadium, goals from Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori overturned Haaland’s early lead, and shortly before halftime, Gunners forward Leandro Trossard was sent off.
After the break, Mikel Arteta’s team bravely defended with 10 men, but Stones’ goal in the eighth minute of added time kept them from winning.
With two points separating Arsenal in fourth place and City leading the Premier League by one point, the draw keeps things the same.
