Nigerian international and striker Victor Osimhen has revealed the influences behind his summer loan move from Napoli to Galatasaray, citing legendary Ivorian forward Didier Drogba and two fellow Super Eagles players.
In an exclusive interview with Galatasaray’s YouTube channel, Osimhen discussed his fascination with Istanbul, drawing inspiration from Drogba’s illustrious career and the experiences of Super Eagles teammates Henry Onyekuru and Ogenyi Etebo, who previously played for the Turkish giants.
“To be honest, there were a lot of players I idolized and followed since I was little,” Osimhen said. “Drogba is one of them. Onyekuru and Etebo played here before, I knew the atmosphere was good, I saw it.
The Nigerian striker added, “I actually looked online but what I saw in reality was much more magnificent, what I saw here was great.”
“It’s magnificent, what I saw here was great. I’m not saying it because I’m a Galatasaray player and I played here, but when I look at it objectively.”
The 25-year-old praised the passionate fans and strong team bond, saying, “I’m not saying this because I’m a Galatasaray player and I played here, but when I look at it objectively, the fans make this place incredible.
He added, “I’ve always said this and I’ll continue to say it, the fans are very passionate and this place is a very big family. It’s really incredible that this place has become an incredibly big club thanks to the fans.”
Since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, Osimhen has made an instant impact, scoring twice and providing three assists in four games across all competitions.
Osimhen’s impressive start has fueled optimism among Galatasaray faithful, who hope he will continue to shine in the Turkish league.
With his loan deal sparking speculation about his long-term future, Osimhen’s performances will undoubtedly be closely watched by top European clubs, including former suitors PSG, Chelsea, and Al-Ahli.
