Liverpool continued their impressive start to the UEFA Champions League, defeating Bologna 2-0 at Anfield to maintain their 100% record.
Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister were on target, ensuring the Reds’ winning streak in Europe’s premier competition.
Liverpool made a blistering start, with Mac Allister tapping home Salah’s exquisite delivery on 11 minutes to secure his first-ever European goal. The assist showcased Salah’s exceptional skill, leaving the Bologna defence scrambling.
Despite Bologna’s efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net, twice hitting the woodwork in the first half. The Italian side’s misfortune ensured the home crowd’s spirits remained high.
The second half was a more cagey affair, with Liverpool struggling to find their rhythm. However, Salah broke the deadlock on 75 minutes with a sublime curler, becoming the first Reds player to score in five consecutive Champions League home games.
The victory sets Liverpool up for their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday, while Bologna host Parma in Serie A on Sunday.
Liverpool’s impressive start under manager Arne Slot continues, with the Dutchman making history as the first Reds boss to secure eight wins from his opening nine matches. The 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in September remains the only blemish on an otherwise outstanding record.
As Liverpool transition from the Jurgen Klopp era to Slot’s philosophy, the players have delivered positive results, laying the groundwork for potential long-term success. While sterner tests await, particularly against Chelsea and Arsenal after the October internationals, Liverpool have capitalised on a favourable run of fixtures and appear more solid defensively.
With their European campaign off to a perfect start, Liverpool will look to maintain their momentum and consolidate their position at the top of the Premier League.
