Former France defender William Gallas believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential move from Al-Nassr to Wrexham would be a sensible deal, considering the player and club’s substantial brands.
Ronaldo, 39, continues to impress at Al-Nassr, scoring consistently in the Saudi Pro League. His initial transfer to the Middle Eastern club was thought to signal the twilight of his career. However, speculation surrounds a potential move to another club.
Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has experienced rapid growth in popularity and ambition since the takeover. The Welsh side aims to climb the English football pyramid.
“Anything is possible in football in the modern game, it wouldn’t surprise me because money talks and we’ve seen that nothing is impossible these days,” Gallas told Prime Casino. “You see young players going to Saudi Arabia when they would’ve have ever left Europe in the past.
Gallas highlighted the importance of social media presence and sponsorship deals in contemporary football. “Footballers and football clubs are now obsessed with their brands too and their sponsors, you can make a lot of money and not just from your wages at your club. Now everything is about social media and having millions of followers, both Wrexham and Cristiano Ronaldo have huge profiles so why not.
He added, “Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a footballer, he’s a product and he’s also still scoring so many goals on the pitch, there will be so many clubs still happy to have him.”
Wrexham’s next match is against Lincoln City on 12 October, while Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr faces Al Shabab on 18 October.
