England’s Nations League hopes have suffered a setback after Bukayo Saka was forced to withdraw from the squad due to a hamstring injury. The Arsenal winger will miss Sunday’s clash against Finland in Helsinki.
According to the England men’s team’s official website, Saka suffered the injury during Thursday’s 2-1 loss to Greece and has returned to Arsenal for further assessment.
“Curtis Jones and Bukayo Saka will not travel to Finland. Saka has returned to Arsenal for further assessment having been substituted during the second-half of Thursday night’s match against Greece.
“Liverpool’s Jones remains in England owing to a personal commitment. A squad of 22 will now fly to Helsinki on Saturday afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Nations League fixture.”
Saka’s injury comes at an unfortunate time for Arsenal, who have made a strong start to the season and currently sit third in the Premier League table, level on points with Manchester City and just one point behind leaders Liverpool.
Arsenal will now focus on assessing Saka’s condition and initiating his recovery process. The Gunners’ next match is against Bournemouth on October 19.
