Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Alexander Isak’s contract situation at Newcastle, as reports emerge that talks over a new deal have stalled. The Swedish striker has long been linked to the Gunners, and this latest development may pave the way for a potential summer transfer.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle have yet to initiate negotiations with Isak, who has three years remaining on his current contract. Initial discussions broke down last season due to Isak’s reluctance to commit, and the two parties have since ceased talks altogether.
This standoff raises questions about Isak’s future at Newcastle, particularly given Arsenal’s enduring interest. The Gunners are likely to be in a strong position to sign Isak if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League. Currently ninth, Newcastle trail fourth-placed Aston Villa by five points.
Newcastle valued Isak at £63m when signing him in 2022, and his worth is now estimated to be around double that figure. During his tenure, Isak has scored 36 goals in 74 appearances.
Newcastle face Chelsea twice in succession, starting with a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge, followed by an EFL Cup match. Arsenal, meanwhile, meet Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
As Newcastle’s Champions League hopes hang in the balance and Isak’s contract situation remains unresolved, Arsenal may sense an opportunity to secure the Sweden international’s services come summer.
