Liverpool manager Arne Slot has quashed speculation surrounding Federico Chiesa’s potential January loan exit, stressing the Italian winger’s focus on regaining full fitness.
Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus in a £10 million deal, has struggled with persistent injuries, limiting him to just 78 minutes across three appearances.
Slot attributed Chiesa’s difficulties to a disrupted pre-season at Juventus, where he was restricted to low-intensity training sessions.
“It hasn’t gone through my mind at all,” Slot said regarding Chiesa’s potential departure. “First and foremost, he needs to get fit again.”
Liverpool are taking a cautious approach to Chiesa’s rehabilitation, balancing physical preparation with gradual match fitness.
Slot declined to provide a specific return date, citing the unpredictable nature of Chiesa’s injuries.
Chiesa will miss Liverpool’s upcoming Carabao Cup and Premier League matches against Brighton.
The Reds are prioritising Chiesa’s fitness, aiming to integrate him seamlessly into the squad.
Slot expressed confidence in Chiesa’s potential impact, saying, “Let’s let him first be fit.”
