Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has received a stirring endorsement from former Blues defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who insists the Senegalese forward has the talent to win the Ballon d’Or.
Jackson, 23, has enjoyed a remarkable start to the season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in nine Premier League outings. His impressive form has led to a new two-year contract extension, silencing critics who questioned his debut season despite 17 goals.
Koulibaly, who played alongside Jackson at Chelsea, believes the young striker must cultivate a winning mentality to achieve greatness. “Nicolas has to believe he can be this good. That is the most important thing,” Koulibaly told GiveMeSport.
The former Chelsea star drew parallels with Sadio Mane, urging Jackson to emulate the legendary Senegalese forward. “He has a good attitude and personality… I hope he will be the story of Senegal, just like Sadio Mane did. Why not in the world? He has the talent, so all things are at his feet.”
Jackson faces stiff competition for the Ballon d’Or, with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Erling Haaland among the frontrunners. However, Koulibaly’s words of encouragement may inspire Jackson to strive for excellence.
Next up for Jackson is Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where he will aim to continue his scoring streak and justify Koulibaly’s faith in his abilities.
