Real Madrid’s poor start to the season has sparked speculation over Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure, with the club reportedly lining up two potential successors in case of a mid-season change.
Los Blancos’ defence of their La Liga and Champions League titles has stuttered, with humbling defeats to Barcelona and AC Milan raising questions about Ancelotti’s immediate future. Despite the Italian’s contract running until summer 2026, Real Madrid are rumoured to be considering alternatives.
According to Marca, the club remains calm about Ancelotti’s position, believing he can rectify the situation. However, two names have emerged as emergency successors: Real Madrid Castilla coach Raul Gonzalez and former boss Santiago Solari.
Gonzalez, a legendary Real Madrid player, has impressed with the club’s reserve team, while Solari previously managed the senior side in 2018. Their presence on the shortlist indicates the club’s willingness to consider internal options.
Ancelotti’s men face Osasuna at Santiago Bernabeu on November 9, a crucial match that may determine the manager’s fate. A positive result could alleviate pressure, but another disappointing performance might hasten the need for change.
Real Madrid’s hierarchy, led by Florentino Perez, will be monitoring the situation closely. While Ancelotti remains in charge, the emergence of potential successors serves as a reminder that the club will not tolerate prolonged underperformance.
