Real Madrid have joined Barcelona in the pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, whose contract negotiations with the German club have reached an impasse.
According to Sky Sport Germany, Kimmich’s renewal has stalled, with Bayern seeking to reduce their wage bill. The German midfielder’s current contract expires in 2025, and he may leave for free if an agreement is not reached.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl aims to trim the squad’s salaries, requesting players like Leroy Sane to take a €2-4 million annual pay cut. Kimmich, who earns €20 million per year, has also been asked to adjust his salary.
With the stalemate ongoing, Bayern face losing Kimmich without compensation next summer. In six weeks, he can enter pre-contract talks with other clubs.
Real Madrid, seeking an experienced addition, have expressed interest. Concerns over Aurelien Tchouameni’s form and Luka Modric’s impending departure have fueled their pursuit of Kimmich.
However, Los Blancos are not alone. Barcelona remain in contention, while Premier League clubs also monitor the situation.
Kimmich’s focus remains on helping Bayern maintain their Bundesliga lead. The German international will face Augsburg on 22 November.
If a resolution is not reached by January, Kimmich will be free to negotiate with interested clubs, setting the stage for a potentially intense transfer battle.
