Cristiano Ronaldo would welcome a third stint at Manchester United if his “friend” Ruben Amorim believes he can contribute to the team’s success, according to former Red Devil Louis Saha.
Ronaldo, who enters the final year of his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, has been linked with a move to Al-Hilal to replace Neymar.
However, Saha claims Ronaldo would relish the opportunity to rejoin United under Amorim, his former Portugal youth team-mate and current Red Devils manager.
“Cristiano would love to return to the club in a role where he’s respected,” Saha told Betfred. “He left on somewhat bad terms, but the players and fans understood what he was trying to say.”
Ronaldo previously spent two spells at Old Trafford, winning the Champions League and his first Ballon d’Or during his initial stint.
Despite nearing his 40th birthday in February 2025, Ronaldo remains committed to playing on, with his remarkable strike rate showing no signs of slowing.
United’s hierarchy may be hesitant due to Ronaldo’s acrimonious departure in November 2022, but Saha believes Amorim would only sign Ronaldo if he genuinely believes he can make an impact.
“Cristiano has a connection with Ruben, but he wouldn’t sign purely because they’re friends,” Saha added. “He’d only do it if he believes Cristiano can help.”
Ronaldo has registered 27 goals in 54 appearances during his second United spell and is now chasing his 1,000th career goal.
