Carragher Blasts "Selfish" Salah Over Contract Comments

Carragher Blasts Salah Over Contract Talks

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticised Mohamed Salah for publicly expressing his disappointment at the club not offering him a new deal, branding the Egyptian winger “selfish”.

Salah, 32, revealed after Liverpool’s 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday that the club had not offered him a contract extension, leaving him feeling “disappointed”. However, Carragher believes Salah’s comments were ill-timed and could undermine Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “I’m very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night… Liverpool have Real Madrid in midweek and Manchester City next weekend. That’s the story for Liverpool right now. And Mo Salah, we’re aware – certainly the local reporters near the club – that in seven years he’s stopped in the mixed zone twice. That’s absolutely fine. But he stops for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool the game and puts that out.”

Carragher added that Salah’s comments were selfish and took attention away from Liverpool’s crucial upcoming matches. “The most important thing for Liverpool this season is not the future of Mo Salah, it’s not the future of Virgil van Dijk and it’s not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League. That is more important than any of those players, and if he continues to put comments out or his agent keeps putting cryptic tweets out, that’s selfish, that’s thinking about themselves and not the football club.”

Salah has been in impressive form this season, scoring 12 goals and notching 10 assists in 18 appearances in all competitions. His contract situation remains a major talking point, with Liverpool facing a huge decision over whether to offer him a new deal.

Amid this uncertainty, Salah is likely to feature in Liverpool’s crunch games against Real Madrid in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League over the coming week.
