Manchester United’s unbeaten run under new manager Ruben Amorim came to an end on Wednesday as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Amorim blamed the loss on a lack of work on the training ground, particularly in defending set-pieces.
Second-half goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba sealed the win for Arsenal, leaving United 11th in the Premier League table. Amorim’s side had defended well in the first half, but were unable to cope with Arsenal’s corner-kick routines, which have proven highly effective this season.
Speaking after the match, Amorim acknowledged that his team needs more time to work on their strategy, particularly in defending set-pieces. “We tried to play our game, especially in the first half. We need more trainings. The set pieces change everything, change the momentum,” he said.
Amorim also praised his team’s intelligence and strategy, but noted that they need to improve with every minute. “We are finding the way to press and the way to block. We will be better in time. We have to improve in every minute,” he added.
United will look to bounce back from the defeat when they host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
