Manchester United have secured a stunning 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to a late heroics display from Amad Diallo. The Ivorian winger’s brilliance saw the Red Devils snatch all three points in dramatic fashion, piling misery on Pep Guardiola’s struggling side.
Josko Gvardiol’s 53rd-minute header had put City ahead, but Diallo’s exceptional playmaking skills levelled the score in the 88th minute. Bruno Fernandes converted the resulting penalty, and Diallo sealed the win with a stunning finish past Ederson in the 91st minute.
The win marked Manchester United’s first victory on enemy territory since 2021 and marked a remarkable turnaround for Ruben Amorim’s team. Amorim’s decision to leave Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad initially seemed questionable, but his selected players delivered when it mattered most.
Mason Mount’s early injury setback was a concern, while Diallo’s repeated offside calls hindered United’s attacking rhythm in the first half. However, Amorim’s tactical adjustments paid off, and his bench players made a significant impact in the game’s final stages.
Gvardiol’s goal, scored from a short corner routine, was City’s fourth concession from a set piece in three Premier League games and their eighth this season. The defeat has further intensified the pressure on Guardiola’s team, while Manchester United’s resilience and determination have earned them a vital three points.
