Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly going head-to-head in the pursuit of highly-rated Argentine left-back Julio Soler, but face stiff competition from River Plate. According to sources, the Premier League giants are willing to pay around €16.5 million (£13m) to secure the 19-year-old’s signature, but River Plate can offer the teenager more playing time.
Soler, who has been capped by Argentina’s Under-23 team and featured in the 2024 Paris Olympics, has been impressing in Argentinian football with Club Atletico Lanus. His performances have caught the attention of top European clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United both seeking to strengthen their left-back options.
Liverpool are looking for younger alternatives to Andrew Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimikas, while Manchester United are searching for reliable left-backs due to the injury-prone Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Soler’s talent and potential have made him a hot commodity in the transfer market, and it remains to be seen whether he will still be at Lanus when the January transfer window closes.
With Soler’s contract running until the end of December 2026, Lanus may be reluctant to let their prized asset go. However, the prospect of joining a top European club may prove too enticing for the teenager to resist. As the transfer window prepares to open, all eyes will be on Soler’s next move.
