Manchester United have initiated talks with Sporting CP over a potential deal to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres next summer, according to reports. The 26-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Portuguese club this season, scoring 24 goals in 21 games under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, who is now the manager of Manchester United.
Gyokeres’s impressive performances have caught the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester City, who were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat to Sporting in the Champions League earlier this season, with Gyokeres scoring a hat-trick.
However, according to reports, Manchester United will need to raise funds in order to secure a deal for Gyokeres, and they will also face competition from their local rivals Manchester City. The Sweden international has previous experience playing in England, having represented Coventry City 116 times and scoring 43 goals, as well as playing eight times for Brighton and scoring once.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will be able to secure Gyokeres’s signature, but the club’s interest in the striker is a clear indication of their desire to strengthen their attacking options.
