Man United Eye Nuno Mendes Signing in January

Manchester United are intensifying their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes, a highly sought-after Portuguese left-back. Mendes’ contract with PSG expires in 2026, but United’s interest has been piqued, with the 22-year-old reportedly on their shortlist alongside Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell and Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras.

While Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez are also being considered, Mendes retains a “strong interest” from the Red Devils. United’s hopes of securing Mendes’ signature have been bolstered by the presence of manager Ruben Amorim, who shares the same agency as the Portugal international, according to Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg.

United’s transfer plans are, however, constrained by a limited budget in the upcoming window. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s financial restructuring will likely restrict the club’s spending power. A potential move for Mendes, who would command a significant fee, may need to wait until the summer, when Marcus Rashford’s expected departure could free up funds to bolster the squad.

Mendes’ agency tie with Amorim could provide United with an edge over rival suitors, including Manchester City, in the pursuit of the highly rated left-back. As United manager Amorim navigates the club’s transfer strategy, the agency connection could prove pivotal in securing Mendes’ signature.
