Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing a move for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, a long-term transfer target for Barcelona, as they seek to bolster their squad with two quality wingers. According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Bayern’s interest in Williams is genuine, with head coach Vincent Kompany keen to strengthen his attacking options next summer.
The move, however, is contingent on the contract situations of Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Bryan Zaragoza. Williams, who was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona last summer before opting to stay at Athletic Club, could be available for a fee in the region of €50-60m. He’s also linked with Manchester United.
Bayern’s pursuit of Williams is part of a broader effort to enhance their attacking prowess, with the Bavarian giants also linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens. The 20-year-old Englishman has impressed for BVB since joining from Manchester City’s youth academy.
Bayern will resume their Bundesliga campaign after the winter break, taking on Borussia Monchengladbach on 11 January. With Harry Kane and Co. looking to maintain their title challenge, the addition of Williams or other attacking reinforcements could prove pivotal in their quest for domestic and European success.
