Chelsea Near Sixth Summer Signing with Jorgensen Deal

Chelsea’s Busy Transfer Window

Chelsea is on the brink of securing their sixth summer signing with the imminent arrival of Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen. However, it has been revealed that Jorgensen was not the club’s first choice. Manager Enzo Maresca initially aimed to sign a Leicester City star instead. Meanwhile, Everton is making efforts to acquire an unwanted Chelsea player.

The Transfer: Jorgensen’s Imminent Arrival

The 22-year-old Jorgensen is set to undergo a medical in the United States on Monday. If successful, he will join Chelsea’s summer signings, which include Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Estevao Willian, Marc Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Chelsea will pay Villarreal €24.5m (£20.7m) for the Denmark U21 international, who will sign a long-term contract with the club.

In the Lineup: Competition for the No. 1 Spot

Jorgensen is expected to compete with Robert Sanchez for Chelsea’s starting goalkeeper position. Djordje Petrovic, who made 34 appearances last season, is likely to be sold due to Maresca’s doubts about his abilities. Chelsea is looking to sell Petrovic for around £15m, though a loan move is also possible.

Manager’s Comments: Maresca on Potential New Signings

Maresca has also hinted at signing Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino. Speaking from the United States, he said, “No. The only thing I can say is they are still Boca Juniors and Villarreal players. The moment they arrive, we will make some comment but at this moment, they are still not our player, so we will see. I know both of them. And both of them are very good.”

The First Choice: Leicester’s Mads Hermansen

Reports from Norway indicate that Maresca’s first choice was Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, who he coached during their title-winning Championship campaign. Renowned for his ball-playing skills, Hermansen was seen as ideal for Maresca’s style at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea approached Leicester for Hermansen, but a £40m price tag was too steep, leading them to pursue Jorgensen instead.

Everton’s Pursuit: Armando Broja in Demand

Chelsea is also looking to offload striker Armando Broja, who has attracted interest from Everton. The Toffees are ready to make a concrete offer, while AC Milan has yet to make a move. Broja, praised by former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino for his potential, has struggled to make a significant impact and is likely to leave Stamford Bridge. He now faces a choice between Everton and Brentford.
