Real Madrid have reportedly informed Liverpool of their intention to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer next summer. The 26-year-old right-back’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season, and Madrid are eager to capitalise on the opportunity to sign him without a transfer fee.
According to talkSPORT, Madrid have already made their interest known to Liverpool, despite not being legally required to do so. Alexander-Arnold will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January, and Madrid are keen to handle the situation with respect to Liverpool.
The Spanish giants’ need for a long-term replacement at right-back has intensified following Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury earlier this month. Carvajal, a six-time Champions League winner, is sidelined indefinitely, leaving Madrid without a natural right-back option. Alexander-Arnold has emerged as their preferred target, with his attacking prowess and defensive capabilities making him an attractive prospect.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are actively working to secure a contract extension for Alexander-Arnold, whose deal, along with those of captain Virgil van Dijk and forward Mohamed Salah, expires at the end of the season. The club’s management hopes to convince the right-back to remain with the Reds, despite growing speculation surrounding his potential departure.
