Aitana Bonmati, a Spanish international player, and Barcelona Football Club are almost certain to reach an agreement on a new contract that will keep the Ballon d’Or of the Femeni team beyond 2025.
Rut Vilar reports that Barcelona and Aitana Bonmati have reached an agreement to extend her contract for several seasons on “Tot Costa,” a program on “Catalunya Radio.” In order to cement her position as a key player at Barcelona, where her contract expires in June 2025, she will receive a higher salary than Alexia Putellas.
For several months, negotiations have been going on, with both sides always hoping to reach an agreement on a new contract that would make her the highest-paid female player in the world and the highest-paid member of the Barcelona squad. Some of the biggest teams in Europe, including Chelsea, the winners of the Women’s Super League, are reportedly interested in signing the current Ballon d’Or winner.
Aitana Bonmati hopes to retain the Ballon d’Or Award
Aitana Bonmati is a contender to win the Ballon d’Or Feminin again following her impressive 2023/2024 campaign. Bonmati, who assisted Barcelona in winning a third Women’s Champions League championship, was officially announced as a nominee for this year’s Ballon d’Or earlier this week.
After her team’s fifth consecutive league title, she scored in the Champions League final match in Bilbao as Barcelona defeated Lyon 2-0 and was named player of the tournament.
With Bonmati’s 11 assists only surpassed by teammate Caroline Graham Hansen’s (19) in the league, Barcelona won 29 of their 30 games and drew the other. Together with Putellas, Ewa Pajor, Salma Paralluelo, and Patricia Guijarro, Hansen is one of five Barca players included on the 30-player shortlist.
Following her graduation from the Catalan club’s academy, the 26-year-old midfielder has made over 150 appearances for the team.
