Real Madrid’s bid to sign Arsenal defender William Saliba has encountered a significant obstacle, with the Gunners and the Frenchman unwilling to part ways.
According to reports, Madrid have made Saliba their top priority to bolster their defence next summer. However, Arsenal have no intention of letting the 23-year-old leave, and Saliba is equally keen to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Saliba signed a new contract with Arsenal last year and has since established himself as one of the world’s top defenders. His impressive performances alongside Gabriel at the heart of Arsenal’s defence have naturally attracted interest from top clubs.
Madrid are seeking to strengthen their defensive options, particularly with Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba struggling with injuries in recent seasons. If they fail to secure Saliba’s signature, they may turn their attention to Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Romero.
Saliba’s rise to prominence is a testament to his perseverance. Having spent three loan spells away from Arsenal, including stints at Saint-Etienne, OGC Nice, and Marseille, he finally made his full competitive debut for the Gunners against Crystal Palace in 2022.
Next up for Saliba is France’s Nations League clash against Belgium on Monday, followed by Arsenal’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on Saturday.
