Amorim Backed to Win ‘3 Trophies’ This Season

Former Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham has thrown his weight behind new coach Ruben Amorim, predicting the Portuguese tactician could land three trophies in his debut season.

Amorim took the reins at Old Trafford earlier this month, replacing Erik ten Hag, who was sacked following a dismal start to the season that yielded just four wins from 14 matches.

Sheringham, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with United, believes Amorim’s attacking philosophy will revitalise the 20-time Premier League champions.

“Ruben Amorim can make an immediate impact at Manchester United with a style of play that is on the front foot, taking the game to the opposition,” Sheringham told FlashScore.

“You cannot be sitting back at Old Trafford and hoping to hit people on the break; that is just not what the club has been about over the past 50 or 60 years, from the Busby Babes to Fergie’s era. We’re playing for Manchester United. Let the opposition worry about you, and we’ll see what happens from there.”

Sheringham expects Amorim’s approach to motivate the players and inspire a significant improvement in performance.

“If he takes the game to the opposition, you’ll see the players motivated and playing for the badge again,” he added.

“I think you’ve got to see a massive improvement, and you’ve got to see an understanding of what he wants to do on the pitch. It will be very evident very early on if he has sparked something, if he has brought enthusiasm.”

Amorim’s first match in charge is against Ipswich Town on 24 November, and Sheringham predicts a successful season could earn the Portuguese manager a new contract and the freedom to make his own signings in the summer.

“Amorim could end up winning three trophies this season, and doing well will give him the credibility to push for his own signings,” Sheringham said.

With Amorim’s tenure underway, Manchester United fans will be hoping Sheringham’s predictions come to fruition.
