Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck has quashed speculation linking him with a return to Manchester United, insisting he is focused on his current club.
The in-form forward, who has scored six Premier League goals in 11 appearances this season, has revitalised his career since joining Brighton in 2020. His impressive form sparked rumours of a potential reunion with Manchester United, where he spent nine years before moving to Arsenal in 2014.
However, Welbeck has dismissed the speculation, telling The Times: “I’m just focusing on what I can control myself and all the other stuff is pretty irrelevant.”
Reports had suggested that former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag targeted Welbeck in the summer to address the club’s attacking crisis. But no offer materialised due to uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future and the club’s recruitment restructuring.
Brighton, now sixth in the league table, next face Bournemouth on November 23, following their impressive victory over reigning champions Manchester City last weekend.
Under manager Fabian Hurzeler, the Seagulls are enjoying a strong campaign, and Welbeck’s commitment will be crucial to their continued success.
