Bayern Munich are refusing to give up on their efforts to tie Alphonso Davies to a new contract, despite interest from several top European clubs. The Canadian full-back’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are all reportedly keen to sign him.
However, according to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern have made persuading Davies to stay in Munich their top priority, and are in talks with the 24-year-old over a new deal. Davies’ agent recently denied reports that an agreement with Madrid is already in place, and stated that a new contract at Bayern is still an option.
Bayern’s determination to keep Davies is understandable, given his importance to the team. The German champions have identified possible replacements in case they fail to reach an agreement with Davies, including AC Milan star Theo Hernandez, who is also reportedly of interest to Manchester United.
Davies was caught up in controversy this week when he was reportedly banned from driving for a month ahead of Bayern’s clash with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. Despite this, Bayern remain committed to keeping Davies at the Allianz Arena, and will hope to persuade him to commit his future to the club in the coming weeks.
