Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed frustration after the club rejected his request for a new centre-back this summer. Despite successfully securing high-profile signings like Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian sensation Endrick, and briefly signing Joselu before offloading him to Al Gharafa, the Italian coach’s priority need remains unmet.
Ancelotti’s Frustration and Request
According to The Athletic, Ancelotti urgently requested the addition of a new centre-back to bolster the squad. This request comes in the wake of captain Nacho Fernandez’s departure to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah. However, Real Madrid’s attempts to sign 18-year-old Leny Yoro, who moved to Manchester United in a £52 million deal, were unsuccessful.
Current Defensive Shortages
Real Madrid currently faces a shortage in central defense, with only Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger as recognized fit centre-backs. David Alaba is recovering from an ACL injury, and Jesus Vallejo is also sidelined. French international Aurelien Tchouameni has shown versatility by deputizing in the backline, but Ancelotti faces a dilemma with only Rudiger capable of playing on the left side, despite his preference for the right.
Club’s Position and Future Plans
The club has expressed confidence in Ancelotti’s ability to adapt to the current defensive situation. They plan to reassess the need for a new centre-back once Alaba returns from his injury. Despite initially planning to sign a new defender this summer, Real Madrid will only pursue this if an outstanding candidate emerges.
