Barcelona Initial €60m bid for Target Dani Olmo rejected

Barcelona is actively working to sign Nico Williams, but they also have their sights set on another key summer target: Dani Olmo. The club’s sporting director, Deco, is leading the effort to secure the 26-year-old attacker, who impressed for Spain at Euro 2024.

Offer for Dani Olmo

RB Leipzig is willing to sell Olmo for a fee around his previous release clause of €60 million. Although Barcelona matched this amount, their offer comprised an upfront payment of €40 million and €20 million in instalments, which Leipzig rejected. Leipzig prefers a larger immediate payment, prompting Deco to continue negotiations to bring Olmo back to Catalonia.

Financial Challenges

Despite Barcelona’s well-known financial issues, the club has committed to spending €118 million this summer on Olmo (€60 million) and Williams (€58 million), without significant player sales to offset these costs. The hefty investment in Olmo, a non-essential player, raises questions, especially when a new defensive midfielder is a pressing need.
