Ten Hag Slammed After Man United’s Defeat to Tottenham

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has faced criticism for his post-match comments after Sunday’s 3-0 thrashing by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton accused Ten Hag of “verbal diarrhoea” and questioned his assessment of the game.

“Ten Hag has verbal diarrhoea,” Sutton said on BBC Radio Five Live. “I don’t know what game he was watching. The lap at the end is a lap for losers.”

United’s dismal performance saw Bruno Fernandes sent off in the first half, with Spurs dominating throughout. Ten Hag refused to condemn the display, insisting United created enough chances for a comeback before Fernandes’ red card.

“Sure. It’s a bad start of the game, Tottenham were dominant, we couldn’t get the right press and we also made many mistakes in possession,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “We couldn’t find the spare man or pass over the press. We made wrong decisions. But we could have come back into the game, because we had our chances, with Garnacho, on the post. I think the red card changes the game, of course.”

United will seek redemption in Thursday’s Europa League clash with Porto, followed by a crucial Premier League match against Aston Villa.

After having played six games this season, Manchester United are just 12th in the league table with less than half the points as leaders Liverpool.

When asked about his own future, Ten Hag said, “I am not thinking about this. We made this decision together – to stay together with the ownership, the leadership group and the staff after a clear review on how to improve as an organisation.

“We discussed together how to construct a squad and we all knew it will take some time – we needed improvement in organisation, we still have some injuries. But we are all on one page, in the same boat; owners, leadership, the staff and players group,” he added.
