Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has backed Jadon Sancho to prove crucial to the Blues’ success, provided the winger remains “fit, mentally and physically”.
Sancho played a starring role in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Heidenheim in the UEFA Conference League, setting up both goals to maintain the Blues’ perfect start in the competition after four matches.
The 23-year-old has made just five starts in all competitions since joining Chelsea on loan from Manchester United, but Maresca believes the England international is a key figure for his side.
“Jadon is very important for us,” Maresca said. “He has to be fit, mentally and physically, and he is going to help us a lot.”
Sancho’s performance against Heidenheim was a welcome boost for Chelsea, who are gearing up for a busy December. The winger will hope to get a longer run out when Chelsea meet Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend.
