Newcastle United have reportedly made an opening bid of £15 million plus £5 million in add-ons for Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, according to Spanish outlet Jijantes FC. With Barcelona in need of funds, they are open to selling Torres for the right price as they prepare for a new era under Hansi Flick. Newcastle, searching for a right-sided forward, could potentially offload Miguel Almiron and Yankuba Minteh this summer.
Ferran Torres, who rose through the Valencia academy before joining Manchester City in 2020, is well-known to Premier League fans. At City, he made an immediate impact, scoring seven goals in 24 league appearances in his debut season and winning both the Premier League and League Cup. However, he was sold to Barcelona for £47 million in January 2022. Since then, Torres has contributed 23 goals and 13 assists in 105 appearances, winning La Liga and the Supercopa de España.

Torres has been primarily used as a winger at Barcelona, but for Spain, he has excelled as a striker, scoring 19 goals in 41 caps. His versatility and scoring ability would make him a valuable addition to Newcastle, particularly given the injury histories of current forwards Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. If signed, Torres would likely be a first-choice starter on the right wing.
Despite the reported bid, there is skepticism about the move. Luke Edwards of Telegraph Sport has cast doubt on the claim, stating there is “no truth” to Newcastle’s bid for Torres. Edwards suggests that Newcastle’s top target remains West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, who has been a key figure in their recruitment discussions. Bowen, who nearly joined Newcastle in 2020, scored 19 goals in 43 appearances for West Ham last season and offers similar versatility to Torres.
