Manchester United’s pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has hit a potential snag, as Union Berlin express interest in the German international.
Union Berlin sports director Horst Heldt revealed his admiration for Goretzka, stating, “Any club can imagine having Leon Goretzka. We can also imagine that very, very well.”
Goretzka’s current situation at Bayern Munich is uncertain, with limited game time under new manager Vincent Kompany. The 29-year-old has started just one game this season, sparking speculation about his future.
Although German publication Berliner Kurier suggests Goretzka is likely to leave Bayern in the January transfer window, Union Berlin’s financial constraints may hinder their chances. Goretzka’s reported €14 million (£11.6m) annual wages are deemed too expensive for the Berlin side.
A loan move is considered a possibility, with Goretzka seeking regular game time. His contract at Bayern runs until 2026.
Manchester United will monitor developments closely, as they weigh up a potential bid for the talented midfielder.
