Nottingham Forest has excluded Emmanuel Dennis from their team list for the season. Dennis’ absence from the 2024–25 list at Nottingham Forest shows that the Nigerian player’s future at the club is in doubt.
The Super Eagles forward signed a short-term loan with Basaksehir in September and moved on loan to Watford in January. He has not been seen at the City Ground in recent months. Upon his return to the Premier League team, Nuno Espírito Santo, his manager, does not have him in mind for the new season.
After starting the team’s first two preseason games, the Nigerian international seemed to have solidified his place in Espírito Santo’s plans. However, the player’s absence from the starting lineup over the previous six games raises the question of what his role is at the City Ground.
In an attempt to free up space in the squad, the former FC Koln forward is keen to leave Nottingham Forest.
The official squad list has been made public, but the player name is not among them, according to the Nottingham Forest official website. Emmanuel Dennis is obviously not in Espírito Santo’s plans for the season. Although the 26-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, Nottingham Forest, under the leadership of Nuno Espírito Santo, has decided to exclude him from the starting lineup.
Reportedly, the team is willing to part with Emmanuel Dennis and three other players for less than the €16 million he initially cost to sign.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles teammate Taiwo Awoniyi, a forward for Nottingham Forest, is prepared to challenge for a spot in the starting lineup.
Awoniyi missed two games last season due to injury. The 27-year-old was sidelined by a thigh injury after undergoing surgery to address a groin issue. For personal reasons, Awoniyi also missed a substantial chunk of the preseason. After making three substitute appearances in Nottingham Forest’s opening three games of the season, he is trying to get back to full fitness.
According to Tribal Football, Awoniyi said, “Nottingham Forest is a team full of talent and players who can be trusted. I just need to keep pushing and keep working hard.”
“It feels great to be back. After a period away due to injury, returning to play is what every footballer hopes for. I’m really happy to be back on the field.
“I am back; I’m healthy and fine. This topic is very hard to go into. But as a player, this is a phase you cannot miss. When it happens, you feel bad about it. But you just must get going, and you just have to stay fit and do the best for yourself.”
