Ancelotti Clarifies Penalty-Taker Amid Mbappe and Bellingham Debate

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shed light on the club’s penalty-taker order, following Jude Bellingham’s successful spot-kick against Getafe on Sunday. The English midfielder’s goal from the penalty spot has sparked debate over who should take penalties for Los Blancos, with Kylian Mbappe having previously been the designated taker.

Mbappe had missed a penalty against Liverpool in the Champions League in midweek, and Ancelotti has now revealed that the Frenchman is not the only option to take penalties. Speaking to reporters after the 2-0 win over Getafe, Ancelotti explained that the order is Mbappe or Vinicius Junior, but with the Brazilian injured, Bellingham was given the nod ahead of Mbappe.

“Vinicius wasn’t there and the order is Mbappe or Vini, and today it was Bellingham or Mbappe,” Ancelotti said. “And both of them chose Bellingham.”

Despite the debate over penalty-takers, Madrid are just one point behind league leaders Barcelona in La Liga, with a game in hand. Ancelotti’s side will look to continue their title push when they face Athletic Club on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Girona next Saturday.
