Rayan Cherki is Liverpool’s Salah Replacement

Liverpool are reportedly considering Lyon’s Rayan Cherki as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose future at Anfield remains uncertain.

Salah’s contract expires next summer, allowing him to negotiate with foreign clubs from January. Despite his sensational form, netting 10 goals in 17 matches under Arne Slot’s management, the Egyptian’s departure looms.

According to L’Equipe, Liverpool have identified Cherki, Lyon’s rising star, as a potential successor. However, they face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who are also monitoring the young player’s situation.

Cherki’s contract with Lyon runs until 2026, with a clause for a one-year extension if he remains at the club beyond this campaign. Yet, Lyon’s financial struggles may force them to part ways with the talented youngster.

The club’s debts amount to £422 million, prompting France’s financial regulatory body, the National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG), to prohibit Lyon from making signings until their situation improves. Relegation remains a looming threat.

As Liverpool plan for life beyond Salah, Cherki’s transfer could be pivotal for both clubs. For the Reds, it’s about maintaining their competitive edge, while for Lyon, it could provide a much-needed financial lifeline.

With Liverpool five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, fans will hope Salah continues to score crucial goals. Meanwhile, the Cherki saga will unfold, potentially shaping the future of both Liverpool and Lyon.
