Manchester United’s Europa League campaign gained momentum on Thursday, thanks to Amad Diallo’s brace in a lacklustre 2-0 victory over PAOK at Old Trafford.
The Ivorian winger, who memorably sealed Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph over Liverpool last season, proved the difference-maker once again. His goals ensured the Red Devils claimed their first European win in over a year, lifting the mood around the club.
PAOK, despite their dismal start to the Europa League, began brightly and edged the first half. The Greek visitors tested Andre Onana’s reflexes with a threatening effort, forcing the Manchester United goalkeeper into an impressive save.
United’s performance improved marginally after the break, with Bruno Fernandes’s pinpoint cross setting up Amad for a well-taken header. The winger’s first goal broke the deadlock and gave the hosts a vital lead.
Amad sealed the win with his second goal, a deflected strike that secured Manchester United’s first European victory since September 2023. The triumph lifts the Red Devils above PAOK in the Europa League standings and provides a much-needed confidence boost.
While the overall display may have lacked sparkle, Amad’s clinical finishing proved the catalyst for a welcome win. Manchester United will seek to build on this momentum as they navigate the remainder of their Europa League campaign.
