Liverpool Face Battle to Retain Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool’s hopes of retaining Trent Alexander-Arnold have suffered a significant blow, with former Premier League midfielder Tim Sherwood believing the club have “no chance” of keeping the star right-back. Real Madrid have emerged as frontrunners for Alexander-Arnold’s signature, sparking concerns about Liverpool’s ability to hold onto one of their most valuable assets.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract is set to expire in less than a year, leaving Liverpool vulnerable to losing him. With the January transfer window approaching, Alexander-Arnold will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs, further complicating Liverpool’s situation.

Real Madrid are seeking a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal, who faces a lengthy knee injury layoff until October 2025. Liverpool manager Arne Slot remains hopeful that Alexander-Arnold will commit to a new deal; however, Sherwood’s assessment casts doubt on the club’s chances.

Sherwood stated, “Once Real Madrid come knocking for you… He’s won everything at the football club and been a magnificent servant, but there’s no chance they’re keeping him now, I wouldn’t have thought.”

The situation is further complicated by the impending contract expirations of key players Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. Sherwood argued that Liverpool’s strong start to the season could influence the trio’s decision, saying, “That helps. We’re talking about three world-class players who want to win trophies.”

Liverpool face a stern test against title contenders Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, with Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah set to feature. The trio must put their best foot forward to help Liverpool retain top spot in the Premier League.
